Students are expected to do a lot of listening in a day. Traditionally in education, the teacher teaches and the students learn. However, in my opinion, they do a little too much listening and not enough talking! You can call me crazy for saying that, but what I really mean is that I believe education is listening, collaborating and teaching from both student and teacher. When this happens, students feel a sense of agency and self-efficacy which is crucial for believing in self. Not only do students growth shine through, but us teachers are able to understand their students needs and expectations on a whole new level.
Listening to learners
This gallery shows the many differences learners can have! As teachers, we have to listen to these needs and begin to incorporate adaptive learning throughout. In my ECS 311 class, we came together and differentiated ourselves, focusing on our strengths and how we learn best. Focusing on student's strengths rather than focusing on what they can't do, creates confidence in student abilities!!! |
Throughout my pre-internship experience, I have accumulated many "students in my pocket." However, I have specifically chosen two unique students who would benefit from differentiated instruction. Click to read more about who's in my pocket!

new teacher thoughtsProfessional learning centres are critical for professional development. Collaborating is crucial to keep things fun and inspiring. In one of my classes, we were expected to be host/guest with our PLC groups. Together, we collaborated and formed deep discussions about becoming a first year teacher! Check out my host discussion about social justice, curriculum and controversial content!
